i have fabulous timing. i'm just talking about one of my favourite films and another one comes on: the 1997 film all over me. while i guess you could say it is a coming out film, it's got a lot of individuality. in some ways, it's hard to watch. i mean, there's a lot of unpleasantness in films about LGBT people so often, but i think that "after ellen" got it right in their review where they say it is "one of those films that is so realistic, it's difficult to watch." but it's also so beautiful and sweet. i guess it's just a lot like real life, which is what makes it both riveting and painful.
well, that and the fact that it has a great script, wonderful actors (where did they find them?) and gritty, understated camera work. in short, it rocks.
speaking of rock, it has an even better soundtrack than foxfire does (heresy!) - plus leisha haley. with pink hair. fuck, yeah.
the soundtrack features a lovely lineup. let's review, shall we?
first, it starts us up with a babes in toyland flick i could do without, but then we get the incredibly sexy ani difranco song "shy", followed by a helium track and sleater-kinney singing "i wanna be your joey ramone". there's a segué with tuscadero and the crazy-ass flashback "jackie blue" by the ozark mountain daredevils - phat.
next we get some murmurs, the geraldine fibbers, and alison pipitone rocking out with "dynamite". there's the amps, the 'present on every soundtrack ever made" rémy zero doing "descent" (a tune i'm quite fond of), and the hits just keep popping with the trippy cornershop song, "6am jullander shere".
ah, but we're not done yet, darlings. there's a brutal bit, now: michelle malone howling out "dimming soul", patti smith's classic, furious, nerve-raw lament "pissing in the river" - matched in the film by our heroïne's loss of innocence. there's two more tracks, drugstore's quietly anguished "superglider" and the finale, the hot sex track "something's burning" by 12 rounds.
man, that last one makes me sexed up as a tricky album. rrar.
i should end by mentioning that i wish i were gay so i could appreciate wilson cruz' sex appeal - he's in all over me, which is over now, as well as the movie on scifi channel, supernova. of course, one of the latter's main characters is angela bassett, so i'm not at a total loss.
but what i meant to say was that all over me features alison folland, who later went on to play roles in good will hunting and boys don't cry, and secondary chick tara subkoff, who is now a clothing designer for her own line, "imitation of christ".
that's all for now. go back about your business.

LGBT = lesbian, bisexual, gay and transgender. it's the "alphabet soup" logo. sometimes it's extended to LGBTI (intersexed).
