in honour of the 30th birthday of angelina jolie (suck on that, byotch!), i'm going to inform our readers of the wonder of her work.
no, seriously. stop laughing. i'm not talking about her boobs. i'm talking about one of her first movies (back from 1996) - not coincidentally, also one of my favourite movies.
the film in question is foxfire. it's amazing.
and the soundtrack - soooo sweet. wild strawberries, mystery machine, L7, the cramps, papa brittle, rose chronicles, lucious jackson, shampoo, kristin hersh - awesome.
did i mention it also features jenny shimizu? and it's the only good film hedy burress ever did aside from if these walls could talk (the same year!).
anyway, the main character, maddy - a photographer and artist going to brown university in the fall - finds herself in a situation. involving a random, wandering butch girl, sexy as hell, played by angelina jolie. and some of the women in the school eventually find themselves in a gang - a gang rallied to stand up for their rights against a sexually predatory teacher, and subsequently against certain angry male classmates.
things do not go well, but there are some beautiful moments. there's a scene involving tattooing - well, just go see it, okay? find it, rent or buy it, and put it in
- and make sure to keep track of where matty's eyes go in the scene where legs comes to her house in the rain. watch her eyes travel...
damn, that's such a romantic movie.

i saw that movie a few years after it was released. good movie, but different from the novel. i badly wanted to be angelina's character so many times in my life it's not even funny anymore. i was too worried about my 'permanent' record to be a rebellious bitch.
