horrific discovery.

i've become lazy and decadent. i've stopped making and drinking the firm's free coffee, and for the last few months, i've been moseying downstairs to starbucks with my credit card for big fat lattes. sometimes twice a day. after crunching the numbers, it appears that i'm spending around $125 a month at starbucks. this means, in eight months, i spend $1,000 at starbucks.

only to get a slight coffee buzz and, sometimes, the runs.

well, no more! i'm going on starbucks embargo.

now, i have no problem with starbucks being ubiquitous or a huge, powerful corporation. in fact, that rules! go little coffeeshop in seattle that made it big! may the original scruffy barista be filthy rich! in fact, keep expanding and piss off those hippies!

but i can't justify spending all this money just to excrete it from my body in a few hours.

(okay, i have a hidden agenda. i want to buy a dalek original, and avoiding starbucks for a few months will just about cover it. how sad is that? if i just stop drinking starbucks, i can afford original art from one of the most well-known artists in the lowbrow/pop surrealism movement and break even.)

I've never had a problem with Starbuck's, except for the fact that I think they over-roast their coffee. But then, I work from home a lot, so make my own espresso.

A friend of mine often talks about how she did a similar calculation years ago when she was in grad school. She also determined that capuccinos were exactly the type of frivolous expense that made life worth living.
