what the hell... the u.s olympic basketball team isn't even staying in the olympic village? they had to bling bling it on a private yacht? what kind of arrogant primadonnas sequester themselves from the rest of the athletes and stay on their own private ship?
this isn't a friggin' p. diddy video.
this isn't a show hosted by robin leach.
this isn't paris hilton's getaway when she is taking a break from slumming it on "the simple life."
this is the olympics. jesus, now i'm almost happy that puerto rico kicked our asses. now maybe the "dream team" will wake the fuck up, come back to earth, and play ball. stop sipping the cris on your fancy boat, and remember that you guys are athletes. jeez.
anyhow, big ups to the u.s. men's gymnastics team, who streaked by romania for the silver. did anyone watch the round by the japanese with their elvis and billy idol haircuts? they might have won gold in the event (their releases on the high bar were fueled by 100% pimp juice), but the u.s. won in terms of cultural hair dominance. okay, fine, billy idol is british. but we invented rock n roll, the sine qua non. so there.
but i think the surprise stars of the olympics is the iraqi soccer team, who weren't even expected to place high enough to earn a place in the olympics. after smoking saudi arabia to earn a place, they have been kicking butt, squashing portugal and costa rica, earning them a place in the quarterfinals. for a team that was tortured by uday when they would lose in international matches, and who were clearly training in less than prime circumstances, and had to be airlifted out by the australian air force, this is pretty amazing. at least something good has come out of that mess in iraq.
and anyone else think that amanda beard is hot? speaking of wet women in skin tight clothing, i'm sure you've all heard about the plight of the british women's triathlon team and their white swimsuits that had to be fitted with "modesty inserts." now THAT's a real "wardrobe malfunction." heh heh.
