assholery crawls up the east coast into my territory.

someone or some people hand cut a swastika several acres wide into a cornfield in new jersey. who the hell has the time to cut a swastika by hand into several ACRES of farmland? dude, GET A JOB (preferably far away from the garden state)! is it just me, or have racist and anti-semitic acts of vandalism gotten more common lately?

update: and now in brooklyn heights? (brooklyn heights is a fancy neighborhood right across the east river from manhattan)

I was making note of that, myself. Honestly, I don't think so much that it is happening MORE, but in the current climate, it's being REPORTED more often. I have a friend who is county deputy sheriff and he told me something that makes a chill run up my spine. He told me that there are 46 active racist or neo-nazi organizations in this state (Colorado). For every organization that gets shut down for criminal acts, another jumps up to take its place. They don't report all activity to the public because it would probably scare the crap out of the neighborhood. He definitely scared the crap out of me!

new jersey has the most active neo-nazis in the northeast, apparently. and we're one of the biggest exporters of white power music.

hrm, i checked out some of the news stories on hate groups in new jersey, and these groups seem to be concentrated in an area southeast of cherry hill and marlton. around turnersville, vineland, and berlin. (i suspect that the neo nazis just liked the names "vineland" and "berlin." also, the area is kind of crappy. in contrast, cherry hill and marlton are really nice.) what is it about crappy areas that breeds hate groups?

i think there is an uptick in these types of crimes. they tend to happen more often when large numbers of people are economically stressed, especially if they belong to a traditionally dominant social group. they want to look for someone to blame and punish.

that said, i think some of the people who have committed these crimes sure look like hardcore tweakers. meth makes people both mean and crazy.

meth - yes i think you may be right. from what i know, it keeps one up for a long time, and one has a lot of focused but deranged energy, and if a person does it a lot, he or she becomes more deranged. that might be the fuel behind the several acre wide swastika cut by hand.

ugh, i just read another one on pam's house blend - a group of hispanic, north african and white teens beat up a black college student with a bat and tried to drown him, while using racial epithets.

Holy crap, that town is right near where I'm from and I used to drive through all the time.

Dumbass kids (at least I'm hoping that whoever did this was under 25). Hopefully they just confine their neo-nazi acting out to cutting designs in a cornfield and not also carving them into someone's forehead. Sigh. I'll still take NJ anyday over anyplace south of Mason-Dixon.

terrific, just what the world needs: -racist- crop circles. David Icke must be wetting himself.
