more hilarity in federal criminal statutes.

i mentioned this yesterday, but i should have posted the "woodsy owl" law in its entirety. here is the "woodsy owl" law in all its glory.

18 U.S.C. § 711a. "Woodsy Owl" character, name, or slogan

Whoever, except as authorized under rules and regulations issued by the Secretary, knowingly and for profit manufactures, reproduces, or uses the character "Woodsy Owl", the name "Woodsy Owl", or the associated slogan, "Give a Hoot, Don't Pollute" shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than six months, or both.
so, if you say "give a hoot, don't pollute" in any commercial setting, you can get thrown in the slammer.

p.s. is this a commercial setting?

well we're not profiting from using the slogan, so no. like, if i sold bumper stickers with the slogan "give a hoot, don't pollute!" there would be a chance that jack-booted feds would come drag me away.

but i want to pretend i am using it in commerce, because it makes me feel like i'm being a badass by breaking federal law.

BREAKIN' DA LAW! BREAKIN' DA LAW!
