anyone else hearing white boy falsetto and beats from timbaland?

the supreme court of new jersey has spoken.

"Denying committed same-sex couples the financial and social benefits and privileges given to their married heterosexual counterparts bears no substantial relationship to a legitimate governmental purpose. The Court holds that under the equal protection guarantee of Article I, Paragraph 1 of the New Jersey Constitution, committed samesex couples must be afforded on equal terms the same rights and benefits enjoyed by opposite-sex couples under the civil marriage statutes. The name to be given to the statutory scheme that provides full rights and benefits to samesex couples, whether marriage or some other term, is a matter left to the democratic process."
pundits have long said that lewis v. harris would be justice poritz's "swan song" before stepping down as chief justice. she retires at the end of the day today, and the decision was released at a special time - 3pm rather than the usual 10am - and this was a day after the court previously announced that no decision would be released today - which just added to the nail-biting drama surrounding this case. she didn't write the opinion, but it's a swan song (in that these justices have spoken, and it's done with) nevertheless.

but wait... wait wait! what's that sound? why do i feel the urge to stand up and dance?

i'm bringing sexy back (yeah!)
them motherfuckers don't know how to act (yeah!)
come let me make up for the things you lack (yeah!)
cause you’re burning up, i’ve got to get it fast (yeah!)

and what a swan song it is! gloria gaynor, your words of overcoming adversity shall always be remembered in the hearts of queers, but it's 2006. so...

v.i.p.
go ahead be gone with it
drinks on me
go ahead be gone with it

uh huh, that's right! go on with your bad self!

get your sexy on
go ahead, be gone with it
get your sexy on
go ahead, be gone with it

okay, so they might call it "marriage" "civil unions" or even "bruce's happy dance," so it's a vermont-style rather than a masssachusetts-style decision - but FULL RIGHTS, KIDS!
