i actually feel a little sorry for the kazakhs in the whole borat thing. i know a couple (i traveled to neighboring uzbekistan a couple of years back), and they're always frustrated by how ignorant americans are about their country. they reasonably fear that borat's movie will only make things worse
on the other hand, borat is really parodying americans, not kazakhs. his whole schtick depends upon americans' utter ignorance of central asia. his character is nothing more than a walking stereotype that manages to find the racisim and anti-semitism in the americans that he meets
