i am required to support buggy crappy software tools that can't solve the problems they were orignally designed for because no one wants to spend 10 minutes researching software to buy an out of the box solution to their problems. instead, they'd rather pay me nearly $25/hour to work half a day on them every other week when something _else_ in them breaks.
i am exhausted.
i get exactly two weeks of paid vacation in a year and i am 30 years old and have been working in a professional capacity for 7 years. i think i'm going to have to ask for an unpaid week off in addition to that or look for another job because i cannot sustain this level of burnout for long. 2 weeks is not enough. it's pathetic.
i am not doing well in the only class i am still enrolled in because i am exhausted and simply have not one single iota of motivation to do crap all for it. i would probably really enjoy the class if i were not extremely burned out.
that class is not over. if i had done well enough on the test i took last Wednesday, i wouldn't have to take the final. but i do have to take the final, and that means i can't have the relaxing prospect of just a full-time job to cope with before i take the first paid vacation i've had since 2001.
read this. i have a lot to say about how businesses run their businesses. stupidly. inefficiently. morale-lowering. insufficient use of current technology to alleviate workers' fatigue. wasting money on things like real estate and making people come into a physical location for face time - unnecessary longer commutes jacking up gas prices. the list goes on... want to start a consulting firm advising companies to convert to virtual businesses?
being in an office building is so 20th century. and being wired is so yesterday.
the people in that article are fucking crazy. work extra hours because you're grateful that you're trusted? fuck that. i want 4 weeks paid vacation and 1 day a week to telecommute. what the fuck is wrong with the people in this country that it has become conventional wisdom that vacation should be a luxury and not a necessity?
but i do have to take the final, and that means i can't have the relaxing prospect of just a full-time job to cope with before i take the first paid vacation i've had since 2001
