da oscars!

list here.

(brokeback mountain gets 8 nominations, and the freepers throw a shit fit. uh, no one made anyone go to see it. the 50 million dollars of box office sales - and counting - were courtesy of people who went to see it on their own free will.)

ha ha!

UPDATE: if your cardiovascular health is stable enough for you to click on that link, i also urge you to look at the number of views and comments that today's other threads have garnered. that's right. here's a little highlight:

the brokeback mountain thread on freerepublic.com had more visitors and comments than the thread about fox news announcing alito's swearing in.

over 600 people couldn't refrain from commenting about the fall of american culture because of the HomosexualAgenda(tm), but scalito's appointment to the supreme court? whatever, dude. why oh why are conservatives so obsessed with sex?

(on an unrelated note, at least they were respectful to coretta scott king.)

I know it's good to know "what the enemy is thinking," but damn, I hate when I link into screeds like that. Does nothing but send my bloodpressure through the roof for no good reason. Did I need another reminder of how f****d up people in this country are!? To paraphrase someone else, maybe we can hope their homeschooled children will grow up to be the biggest, most flaming c***s**kers Fresno (or Kalispell, or Provo, or Toms River) has ever seen.

they crack me up. no one told them that they had to watch the film; there are plenty of other films to watch. yet they carry on like babies. despite a limited release, the film is bringing in killer numbers, and these people have concluded that "da queers" must be going to theaters watching it over and over again.

get over it, schmucks! america *likes* this film. now move along...

they've bought into a sexually repressed moral system that involves denying a natural urge that is as fundamental and powerful as thirst or hunger. that is likely to make a person unhappy.

then they see all these godless liberals running around having guilt-free sexual fun, and they get pissed that an unrepentent sinner is freer and happier than god's chosen people. it isn't so much that others are sinning. it's the sinning without the guilt, shame and fear that provokes the scarred psychology of so many control-freak social conservatives.

"brokeback" tackles what buying into a sexually repressed moral system does to people. both characters attempt to marry and carry on "decent" lives, and ennis' homophobia results from his paranoia of being found out.

i believe it hits too close to home for many of these posters.
