this morning i went outside for a cup of coffee and gas prices at the gas stations next door read approximately $2.85 to $2.90 a gallon for regular (not premium) gasoline, depending on the gas station.
i just walked outside to get the mail. it's now $3.10 to $3.25 a gallon.
that's over a span of six hours, folks. and new jersey has the most inexpensive gas prices in the nation. i'd hate to see the prices in new york or california.
there are people who depend on gasoline to get around, and this will put a dent in a lot of people's checkbooks. i'm guessing many people will simply have to form carpools or even walk. i'm so fucking glad i live a block from new jersey transit. maybe i should go for a bike instead of a car. i'm dead serious.
update: the problem is worse than i had initially thought. in many states, gas stations are out of gas. output of gulf oil is still down 95%.
this storm has affected the entire nation.
