paul krugman is a rock star pundit. his columns are linked everywhere. liberal bloggers love him. conservative bloggers hate him. his columns are reprinted everywhere in the world, not to mention that The Great Unraveling was a bestseller.
the new york times must regard him as a golden child since they get paid every time another newspaper reprints the columns. not only that, krugman is widely respected by his peers. all the newspapers have been salivating over dreams of an online subscription model. the new york times is dipping its toe in the water by charging for its editorial content. i think they are relying largely on krugman's popularity to pull this off.
