to prevent confusion, let me add a nota bene i have just learnt from a law-school friend of mine:
in new york, they call the lowest court, what most states call "superior court", "the supreme court". therefore, this decision is no less a landmark but has much less of an immediate impact than you might imagine when stumbling 'pon it blind.
those silly new yorkers. what are they gonna do next, call their governor "president" and refer to Bush as "governor"? (hear, hear!)
p.s. we are the queer collective...
[re: P.S.] ...and partnered with a jew. hm, this seems somehow familiar to me, can't for the life of me think why...
ah yes, forgot to point out the confusing new york court system backasswardsness.
and as to your second comment, the judge in question is an asian-american woman "married" to a jewish "man," and this asian-american woman *already has a law degree,* which is a situation that does not apply to anyone i know.
"any resemblance to any person, living or dead, who is asian, in the law & whose partner is jewish is purely coincidental." hee hee!
