a school bus driver is fired for making a remark that stem cell research hasn't produced a cure in 23 years. look, i'm all for stem cell research, and i'm aware that scientific research isn't the most rapid of endeavors (and that's just the nature of the beast - you don't stop it in its tracks because you don't find results quickly), which is why her comment irks me. however, what irks me more is that the superintendent of a public school system had the audacity to fire her for her comments. at the most, he should have brought her in and suggested that these comments may not be appropriate - but as far as i know (i never took first amendment, so my knowledge on this topic is spotty), what the superintendent did was in violation of the first amendment. this is a government action against free speech, which is a no no. and this makes liberals look bad. don't let the other side get any fuel for the fire, okay?
