hey, it looks like jerry falwell is organizing a crusade against gays!
The Lynchburg, Virginia-based Falwell said the 'army' would be a "21st century resurrection of the Moral Majority," the organization he founded in 1979.this could be a plot for the second film of a trilogy about a place called, say, middle earth:Called the Faith and Values Coalition, Falwell said that it would lobby for conservatives to fill openings on the Supreme Court and lower courts and would push for a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, and the election of another "George Bush-type" conservative in 2008.
The Massachusetts Supreme Court allowing gay marriages "helped energize our people," Falwell told the Associated Press.
And when San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom began performing gay marriages, it "really caught the attention of people of faith in this country, and what we have been saying could happen actually happened," he said.
"The timing could not have been better. That, along with the abortion issues and the terrorism issue, helped us to get our people awakened."
after a period of relative peace and prosperity, the dark lord sauron ascends to power and begins to build an army of orcs and trolls (an army led by, oh what the hell... a really old coot named "jerry") to conquer middle earth and to subjugate beings who just want to have fun, be happy and live in peace. sauron's symbol was the watchful eye ("big brother is watching!") - and he was able to enslave men through fear.
except this ain't hollywood...
where is bilbo clinton?

There are many Christians in this country. The spirt of God moves us now to speak out. Call us what you like and make fun of us all you want. But please understand we fight not against flesh and blood but against princapalities of evil in high places. We deeply care for all who live in this country and all other countries we recignize the humnan heart is inherantly evil. Only by voicing our opinions and with God's help can we ever make a diffrance. So tell me how does that ruin your day? After all if we are right then you had better listen, and if we are wrong then we will not recve God's help....
see, i have no problem with religion. i have a problem with the type of proselytizing that is becoming more and more prevalent in this country, which is threatening the separation of church and state. i have no problem with christians exercising their religion in the privacy of their churches, but when they start demanding that the rest of us should live according to christian law, i'm going to fight it tooth and nail. you can tell me i am going to hell; that is fine. but when you start lobbying lawmakers to force people to live under christian law, i'm going to fight it.
here, let me use an example. i choose to have relationships with women; however, i will **never** force another person to have a relationship with a member of the same sex. i think that choice should be up to the individual, and i think the law should allow individuals to make their own decisions on how they should live, provided that it does not encroach on the rights of others. (and no, being grossed out by two men kissing is NOT infringing on someone's rights). likewise, i will never support a law taking away the rights of people to go to church, and fortunately for you, that right is sealed in the first amendment.
now, i know a lot of christians, and i'm cool with them. they might not agree with my lifestyle, but that's their prerogative. they are free to choose to accept jesus christ as their lord and savior. that does not anger me. what does anger me are those so called "christians" who demonize gays and try to take away their rights. those are the christians that are on my "fuck you" radar, not the ones i mentioned earlier. i try my best to distinguish "fundamentalist wackos" from other christians.
my rule is: i accept you; you accept me. and i don't convert you; you don't convert me. we live our lives as we please. simple.
do you get this, or do i have to explain further?
lyle --
you simply cannot have freedom of religion without freedom from religion. the two of them are mutually interdependent. what are you going to do if the heads of government approved chrisitianisty decide that your version chrisitianity isn't the 'right' one? there is no more 'new world' for you to flee to as there was in seventeenth century england.
btw, no church is or was going to be forced to perform gay marriages. so, how exactly was gay marriage a form of oppression against christians?
oops, needed to add to my earlier comment:
lyle, nobody here has a problem with christians voicing an opinion. we believe in the freedom of speech here. i don't care if christian leaders rail against sinners, including gays, all day in their private churches or in their private homes. nobody was going to force anyone to marry a person of the same sex. nobody was going to force your church to marry any gay couples.
what disturbs me is the practice of making secular law conform to christian law. this is partly because there is no agreement on what christian law is. the bible itself is contradictory. so, whose interpretation wins out? the other reason it bothers me is that there are millions of practitioners of other religions in this country. they have a right to free and unhindered practice of their faiths as long as they don't infringe on other people's rights.
i agree with emily2 that being 'upset' or 'offended' at their beliefs is not the equivalent of having one's rights infringed. otherwise, why would we bother to protect the freedom of speech in this country?
there are also people, like me, who don't believe in god. i simply can't. i tried and tried and tried to believe, but it just didn't happen. i grew up in one of the most religiously conservative communities in this country, and the church pretty much lost me by the time i was eight or nine years old. the reason why? the intolerance. i'll even post about it sometime.
lyle - honey, darling - ...
+ if you are going to quote scripture to us, at least quote it without obvious spelling errors. otherwise we might suspect you don't know what the big words mean.
+ also, spellchecking your actual post might be nice. since you come off as an illiterate ijit.
+ the spirit of god is not limited to Christians Like You(tm). other people - such as my mother and my father - are church-going, devout christian americans who think your ideas are full of dren. but i suppose you'll just claim to know the TRUTH - no one else could possibly know something you don't, right? especially given your inability to spell. that heartens me - you must be a real scholar to be unable to spell principalities, recognise, human, inherently, difference & receive in one short comment.
+ finally, if you want to come and quote scripture and blather, at least bother to provide us with some way to respond to you. "drive-by commenting" is frelling childish. whyncha make a free blogspot website - you bothered putting up a profile, how about putting up your ideas for others to see and respond to you with?
ha ha.
take note, readers. what lyle just did is what i call "shit and run."
