so. another mystery solved - ed wood's lost film necromania has been discovered!
zap2it.com reports,
Wood's final film, necromania, was thought lost for 30 years before author Rudolph Grey, who wrote Nightmare of Ecstasy: The Life and Art of Edward D. Wood, Jr., discovered a copy in a Los Angeles warehouse, reports Reuters. Now, the porn film will be re-released in two versions -- soft core and more explicit -- on DVD for sale online. necromania centers on a young couple, Danny and Shirley, who seek out Madame Heles, the leader of a coven of witches, for help with their sex life. The low-budget 1971 film was shot over a handful of days for less than $7000 and is considered yet another work that proves Wood's nonexistent directing talent.man, i am sogonna rent this one. the hardcore version, of course - what's not to love?
not to mention it's based on a novel called the only house what i would luuuurv to read, although it seems to be completely unavailable - not listed in the library of congress, even.
Fredrik Carlstrom, executive producer of the DVD, says that necromania epitomizes Wood's charm. "It has a story, it has ambition," he says. "It's like all his films, like anything that's so bad it becomes good. Or maybe it's pure genius. That's the appeal of Ed Wood."or else it just sucks so bad it's good. either way, the article mentions it's just in time for the 10th anniversary release of the tim burton film biopic of the director's life starring johnny depp, ed wood.
i remember my dad telling me all about plan 9 from outer space when i was a child - "worst movie ever made," he used to say. too true, too true - and yet, how much a cult film it has become!
