Attack on Iran

i've been encountering a lot of rumors that the us is going to launch a joint attack on iran with israel. this is the second such article i've encountered in the last week. it states that the CIA and the Defense Intelligence Agency are in open revolt against the white house.

frankly, i am FUCKING sick of this shit. i am fucking sick of anonymous leaks and unfounded rumors. if bush and co. are truly insane, these stupid COWARDS need to make their accusations in public. if our leadership is going to draw this country into a FUCKING nuclear confrontation, then you snivelling, craven anonymous *assholes* need to STEP forward and make yourselves known. otherwise, you are pissing into the wind.

This. Is. Not. A. Tom. Clancey. Novel.

if a major city in this country is reduced to smoking rubble because you people acted like a bunch of mice, sneaking around in the shadows while you still had the chance to do something, i sincerely and truly hope you are left swinging from the nearest lamppost first because you deserve it. you really do. your duty is to protect this country. if you can't do that, quit your job. i don't want you working for me or the rest of the american people in some of the most important and pivotal positions in our government.

P.S.

i don't believe that the bush administration would launch a joint attack on iran with israel because they think they'd win the election. however, they did name iran as a member of the axis of evil, and the whole iraq war was about a policy of pre-emption.

P.P.S.

okay, last postscript. i know that in these tense days, i should always strictly evaluate every unfounded rumor before contributing to its spread. for example, suskind's new york times magazine article appealed to my inner bush hater. i didn't link it because most of it was based on people talking from behind the curtain of anonymity, and i refuse to give credence to their accusations if they aren't willing to make them in public.

so, i've done some google searching on the iran attack story. nothing from any major, trustworthy publication indicated that the us would participate in such an attack, but i did find several recent articles reporting on israel's growing unease with iran's nuclear program.

the us, given its close relationship with israel, would probably help israel in such an attack, even if it were only behind the scenes. in fact, i doubt the us government would want to take a prominent role in it.

so, i am officially very afraid. what kills me is that the majority of ordinary citizens in iran do not want to live under a fundamentalist government. there has been a lot of pressure from iranian public for a more modern society. but the movement is fragile, and an attack on iran would do nothing but inflame fundamentalist passions further.

what a fucking insane world this is. i want off this planet.

P.P.P.S.

okay, last postscript for sure. i really mean it. this situation is quickly heating up.

P.P.P.P.S.

holy shit.

holy shit is right. don't go...we need you. there is only one way off the planet (not a viable option).

money, greed, selfishness, anger, myopia, religious intolerance, more intolerance....on and on and on.

We can only do what one person can do. As Margaret Mead said: "Never underestimate the power of a few committed people to change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

These are dark days...before the dawn.
