America! Fuck Yeah!

Amurrika! Fuck Yeah!

Freeduuuum issint freee!
It's got a hefty fuccckin priiice!

the review of team america in my school paper characterized the movie as a biting satire of the decadent and hypocritical left. the reviewer got a real kick of the portrayal of michael moore as a terrorist. i see this as a fine example of the human being's capacity to selectively absorb only information that falls in line with its very own opinions.

i think that reviewer needs to sit down and have a good listen to the soundtrack. the movie doesn't show any particular reverence for either the 'left' or the 'right' if we must resort to such descriptive and informative labels to describe the political spectrum in this country. the movie gleefully skewers the triumphalist patriotism of the shoot first and ask questions later bunch with as much abandon as it mocks hollywood liberalism.

the satire is also remarkably self-conscious, a signature trait of parker and stone's work. it's definitely the work of gen-xers, that irony-obsessed, apolitical band of under-achievers.

okay, i'm done stereotyping now. that was fun.
