selling off public utilities in france is *not* popular with the state employees who currently run them. the public utility workers in france view private sector employers with trepidation, fear, and outright distrust. they essentially believe they are being sold out to a lower standard of living.
if we take the US of A as a test case for the consequences of 'deregulating' public utilities (republi-speak for Selling Off Public Utilities to Private Interests), they are right. let's hope they don't follow through with the Privatize Everything! script and 'deregulate' their financial services industry or they'll be enjoying a good old-fashioned enron-style screwing. don't cry for me argentina.
