words fail me (as usual)

i'll leave extended commentary on this proposed ass-raping of the military (gay! gay!) to my betters. but i'll say this: the repubs are trying to pass a law prohibiting women from working in any environment that might lead them to end up in combat. like in support positions. newsday:

Republicans claim the Army prohibition would affect only about 31 female soldiers. But Lt. Gen. James L. Campbell, director of Army staff, wrote the House Armed Services Committee that it could bar women from 21,925 combat-related jobs in the Army.

Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said Wednesday the Army is working with Congress and battlefield commanders "to find an appropriate way that's consistent with our country's view on that subject."

i can never believe the things that come out of the occupation gov't's mouth. such as, for example, the bit about finding "an appropriate way that's consistent with our country's view on that subject." what he really means is "we're not only screwing the country with our budget and wars, we're also going to urinate in the face of women who serve or want to, but instead they can cook our dinner and be pregnant."

other versions of the same story: BBC, government executive (now there's a magazine whose name would shame me... if i got government executive in the mail, i'd hope it were wrapped in plain brown paper so's people thought it were pornography or something...)
