yippee!

i am joining the freelancer's union, an organization that provides benefits to freelancers. benefits include health insurance at an affordable rate. my student insurance extension runs out in early march, so time is a-tickin'.

anyway, if you are an independent contractor who lives or works in new york, you are probably eligible. although they do not cover people in the legal field, they do cover "skilled computer users" and "financial services." they define "skilled computer user" very broadly - basically you have to use software on a computer - and this includes microsoft word, etc. (yeah, i know. it covers pretty much everyone.) i use word, excel, litigation database software - and i do litigation support for a large financial services firm. there we go: "skilled computer user" in the "financial services" industry.

sign up, o firm-less law school graduates! don't depend on those schlocky personal injury lawyers (who won't even hire you) to get the guy who hit you with his car to pay your medical bills.
